A few thoughts from the Grandparents - From the Family Reunion 2004

I found this in the Gilbert Cookbook that we were all given a few years ago...

You're a special family. You bring a special mix to our table. A huge diversity of personalities and character. Mom and I love each of you for what you are. The Lord has blessed this family with material things. To have an abundance of material things and yet stay humble may be our biggest challenge.

1. Be consistent. Don't give ultimatums if you're not going to follow through.
2. Be together in what you require.
3. No matter how tough things go for your kids, make sure they know they will always be loved at home.
4. Encourage training or education for each child to help them prepare for the life in the cold, cold world. Hopefully they will love their work.
5. Make sure that the children know that their parents love each other.
6. Remember that many tough situations can be helped by good humor.
7. Don't be-little your companion or children in front of each other.
8. Mom (Grandma) is a great example of a forgiving spirit, if not so she would have booted me out long ago. Learn to say "I'm Sorry", and "I was wrong", and "Please forgive me". Remember that Grandma is 74 and cannot do the things she has been able to do in the past.
9. Never let money be the "KING" of your family.
10. Most important is that your kids know that you love God and that the Gospel was restored through Joseph Smith. We know this from the bottom of our hearts.

Each of our grandchildren has special and unique talents. Help them develop them.

These are such good teachings and I will take each of them to heart. What a blessing to have them in this world.
